Your role

As an Agronomy Apprentice you will have the chance to start your career at our state-of-the-art vertical farm near Sandwich, Kent. You will work and learn alongside highly experienced horticulturists, food technologists and plant scientists. The job is varied. While your core responsibilities will be to assist the agronomy technicians, making sure make sure the crops are grown in the optimum environmental conditions and received the right fertigation, you will also have the opportunity to work with the production team, technical team and R&D team.

 

Role Description

  • Monitor fertigation and environmental conditions.
  • Check the irrigation system and carry out daily maintenance.
  • Calibrate the various measuring and dosing equipment (pH, EC, dosing pumps…etc.)
  • Mix fertilisers and bio- stimulants
  • Help with crop checks/crop walks during the growth cycle and post-harvest.
  • Collect samples to send for analysis.
  • Help with farm operations when required (seeding – harvest – packing…etc.)
  • Once you’ve got the skills and confidence, we’ll give you the opportunity to work independently and look after the crops with limited supervision as part of our weekend rota.
  • Always work in a safe manner, and be involved in our H&S improvement plans

Your role

The Hygiene Supervisor will have a pivotal impact in our brand-new facility right at the heart of our state-of-the-art Vertical Farm in Sandwich, Kent, where you will be supporting the site in producing delicious food products by maintaining a top-class level of hygiene in the production areas. Your primary purpose is to supervise a hygiene team and ensure the factory is kept to a high standard that as a minimum will meet, if not exceed our food hygiene standards. This means working with a multi skilled hygiene operative within an effective and efficient hygiene team, delivering high standards of cleaning throughout the site in accordance with company, customer and legal requirements.

Requirements

Hygiene

  • Lead, organise, and monitor the hygiene team to meet performance and safety standards.
  • Maintain high hygiene standards in the production and warehouse areas, ensuring compliance with food safety and health protocols.
  • Manage and develop a multiskilled hygiene team, including training, audits, and performance monitoring.
  • Oversee hygiene schedules, procedures, and equipment maintenance, ensuring adherence to all relevant management systems.
  • Manage HR admin tasks like absence, holidays, and reviews while maintaining clear communication across departments.
  • Control inventory and stock levels of cleaning chemicals, PPE, and housekeeping equipment, ensuring timely replenishment and functionality.

 

Health & Safety

  • Control COSHH management and associated training across all functions.
  • Ensure all hygiene staff are trained and competent in all procedures relevant to their role
  • To ensure material safety data sheets for all chemicals used on site are maintained, updated regularly and are accessible to all staff

Job Overview

Provides specialist Process Control System (PCS) technical expertise and support for the process plant within API Manufacturing, Sandwich and ensures they meet with the operational requirements of API and all applicable legislative and corporate standards. Reports to the APIM
PCS Engineer Team Lead.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides specialist PCS technical expertise and support to the Operations group, Process Supervisors, engineers and project teams in API Manufacturing.
  • Supports the development, implementation, validation and support of the PCS in the API Manufacturing facilities, including PCs and networking hardware.
  • Maintains the validated state of the PCS in the API Manufacturing facilities following applicable corporate standards and guidelines, and the principles of Good Automated Manufacturing Practice (GAMP).
  • Ensures timely resolution of PCS problems and queries. Provides an excellent level of service and support to the Operations group, ensuring that PCS technical support is always available when required and plant downtime is minimised.
  • Provide PCS software engineering expertise in support of system enhancements and improvements.
  • Provides PCS technical expertise for engineering projects and manages the provision of all PCS deliverables for engineering projects, including hardware and software components, commissioning, system testing, validation and all associated documentation.
  • Works with engineering to ensure an appropriate level of engineering support is delivered to the API facilities, including projects, maintenance and support.
  • Delivers PCS training to the Operations group and other colleagues as required, including training on system modifications and enhancements as they go live.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

Experience Requirements – Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Bachelor’s Degree or above, Major in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Automation Engineering, etc.
  • Having more than 5 years of practical experience in automation engineering and experience in automation compliance projects, with operation and maintenance experience in Emerson systems, especially the DeltaV system, and having experience in virtualization and industrial network security maintenance will be given priority. Experience with writing software test plans, user requirements, and system design documents
  • Familiar with process controls equipment
  • Strong knowledge of Computerized Systems, Compliance regulations and standards
  • Teamwork spirit, good communication skills and training abilities

Position Summary

Based at our state-of-the-art Sandwich laboratories, you will design and develop robust, efficient and sustainable crystallisation processes for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), API intermediates, and fine chemicals. Using high-throughput experimentation (HTE), you will explore polymorphism, salts, solvates, and crystal habit. Collaborating with our chemistry, analytical and engineering teams, you will help meet project goals and transfer crystallisation processes to scale-up and manufacturing facilities. We welcome applications from experienced crystallisation scientists, as well as experienced material scientists with an interest in diversifying into crystallisation.

 

Position Responsibilities

  • Independently perform all aspects of crystallisation process development
  • Use modelling and statistical analysis software to support crystallisation and downstream process design, scale-up, and understanding.
  • Consider scalability, robustness and cost-effectiveness to ensure processes can be successfully transferred to manufacturing scale.
  • Proficiently operate and maintain relevant crystallisation development equipment, including support and use of relevant Process Analytical Technology (PAT).
  • Perform comprehensive solid form screening using a wide range of techniques to support understanding of the solid form landscape.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of polymorphism, including the identification and characterisation of polymorphs, hydrates, solvates, and salts, and their implications for process development, and intellectual property.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues within the group and across multi-disciplinary teams, helping to align work with needs of the customers
  • Contribute to effective technology transfer documentation for research and commercial manufacturing sites.
  • Communicate project progress, plans, requirements, and risks to senior analysts, managers, stakeholders, and clients. This includes both informal updates and formal written reports/presentations.
  • Stay current with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), data integrity/handling policies and relevant business practices, ensuring compliance with internal and external quality standards.
  • Apply a continuous improvement mindset to identify opportunities for improved work processes to deliver increased productivity, safety and quality.
  • Utilise the experience of the group to support continued professional development in a range of technical areas to develop a high level of expertise supplemented with transferrable soft skills.

Collaborate with other colleagues including Process Engineers, Process Chemists, Analytical Chemists, Pilot Plant facility staff, formulation scientists and manufacturing colleagues at Sandwich and other global sites. Education and Experience

  • Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related subject as a minimum.
  • Meaningful experience of crystallisation development and associated analytical and solid form characterisation techniques, or experience of the application of material science techniques with a keen interest in diversifying your skills and acquiring knowledge in the development of crystallisation processes.

 

Technical Skills

  • Broad knowledge of crystallisation techniques and downstream processing steps, including filtration, washing and drying.

Join our team as a IT Specialist and collaborate with scientists, Quality Assurance, corporate IT, and vendors to support the generation and management of laboratory data at the Asymchem Sandwich site.   • A passion for continuous learning and improvement, with a strong ability to acquire new skills and apply them effectively.

Position summary

Working within our state-of-the-art laboratories at Sandwich, your role will be to design and develop new routes to RSMs (Regulatory Starting Materials) and APIs (Active Pharmaceuticals Ingredients) through considered experimental execution in the laboratory. Within a collaborative team environment, you will create safe, robust, scalable and efficient chemical processes to manufacture pharmaceutical API’s.  You will also have the opportunity to transfer these chemical processes to scale-up facilities and ultimately manufacturing.

 

Roles & responsibilities may include

Asymchem will invest in your development so that you can:

 

  • Design and demonstrate new synthetic routes to small molecule API candidates.
  • Develop robust processes which ensure safe, reproducible and scalable manufacturing in large scale GMP equipment.
  • Employ a range of laboratory equipment from mg to multigram scale, in conjunction with a suite of analytical tools, to maximise the generation of knowledge from each experiment.
  • Contribute directly to technology transfer activities into the Sandwich pilot plant facility and other sites within the Asymchem network.
  • Collaborate with scientists within and outside functional area to achieve team goals.
  • Utilise a systematic, methodical approach to solve complex chemistry problems and identify the root cause of any processing issues.
  • Perform laboratory operations with a critical focus on safety ensuring process safety guidelines are followed when conducting scale-up experiments.

The successful candidate will have a passion for synthetic organic chemistry and a desire to join our highly innovative High-Throughput Experimentation (HTE) group, playing a pivotal role in advancing research and development. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for designing and developing efficient routes and processes for the large-scale manufacture of small molecules, including complex Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), for the pharmaceutical and other industries.  Using state-of-the-art technologies and robotics, you will contribute to the development of novel synthetic methodologies, from organometallic chemistry to biocatalysis.  With your expertise in organic chemistry and a strong understanding of the contemporary literature, you will play a crucial role in driving our projects forward and making a meaningful impact on patients’ lives.

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry is required. While a background in related areas such as laboratory automation, High-Throughput Experimentation, or organometallic chemistry is desirable, it is not essential. We value a strong foundation in organic chemistry and a willingness to learn.
  • Extensive knowledge of contemporary literature and organic chemistry, including synthetic reagents, methodologies, reaction mechanisms, reaction work-up, and isolations.
  • A passion for continuous learning and improvement, with a strong ability to acquire new skills and apply them effectively.
  • Creative and analytical problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to apply knowledge to new challenges and develop innovative solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, fostering effective teamwork and collaboration, are essential. Experience in overseeing scientific projects and providing colleague mentorship is highly desirable.

Balancing Entrepreneurship and Caring for children and loved ones with Additional Needs can add extra pressure.

We aim to create a supportive community of founders who are facing additional challenges. We understand that as challenging and lonely being a founder can be, it can be magnified for those that have carer responsibilities too.

 

This event is a designed to be a safe space for those with extra care responsibilities to connect, share experiences, and discover resources designed to empower you both personally and professionally.

It’s also an opportunity to simply meet other founders with similar challenges.
