Company: Logical Biological

Location: Office-based at Discovery Park in Sandwich, Kent. However, home-based will be considered for the right applicant.

Reports to: Managing Director

Hours: 08:30-17:00 (full-time) plus travel

About the role: 

This pivotal position is responsible for sourcing the products offered by Logical Biological, bringing
new collection sites to the portfolio while also being responsible for developing/maintain close
relationships with and purchasing material from our existing partners. Strong communication and
negotiation skills are a must. The role is strategically important, expected to hit the ground running,
and with plans to further expand the team, the candidate should be an experienced, commercially
minded operator capable of managing people, projects and contracts. The ideal candidate would
have a solid understanding of the market for and use of human biological products within In Vitro
Diagnostic testing and ideally a strong existing network of collection sites, such as clinics & hospitals.
It is envisaged that the successful applicant will be invited to take up a place on Logical Biological’s
Management Team.

To deliver:

– New collection sites added to portfolio
– Build & maintain excellent relationships with new and existing collection sites
– Field enquiries from sales team and source required products to meet target price and detailed
technical specifications with exceptionally rapid turnaround
– Establish new products & effectively communicate product information to Sales team
– Procure products at the best possible prices


– Part of the Management Team, Supports the Managing Director in setting standards both
internally and externally and setting/delivering the company strategy
– Set and deliver Sourcing strategy, delivering projects required to meet the strategy
– Meet business objectives and Key Performance Indicators in area of responsibility
– Drive all key activities needed to source products and deliver to customers with rapid
turnaround times
– Liaise closely with sales team to know what items are wanted and to determine availability and
pricing in the shortest possible time. Train sales team on key product lines
– Purchase products from existing collection sites for sale by Logical Biological as a day-to-day
activity, understanding and incorporating detailed technical specifications, with strong accuracy
even when working under significant time pressure. Strong communication and negotiation
skills required.
– Responsible for managing the relationships with existing collection sites and building further
business with these partners
– Establish agreements with suppliers, support with customer supply agreements to ensure they
reflect what we are able to offer and align with distributor agreements.
– Optimise ways of working to ensure scalable, efficiency and accuracy
– Contribute to maintaining/improving the ISO9001 Quality Management System by contributing
to and cooperating with Complaint/NC investigations, Internal & External Audits, etc.

Typical Activities: 

-Prepare or sign-off Purchase Orders which may be of considerable value, ensuring 100% accuracy in
terms of meeting customer specifications
-Engage with new collection sites and establish as approved suppliers
-Help drive sales opportunities through the pipeline at pace by providing pricing and availability
information to the sales team
-Build and maintain relationships with existing collection sites with a view to growing Logical
Biological’s business overall.
-Ensure sales enquiries requiring purchasing activity are followed up with rapid turnaround.
-Carefully manage expectations both internally and externally in terms of lead-time, risk to lead-time
and how the company is going the extra mile to deliver
-Occasional travel required, which may be national or international
-Supplier performance reviews & auditing

Knowledge and Experience: 

-At least 5 years experience working in a Sourcing, Product Management or similar roles in a
commercial setting, ideally purchasing human biological materials for the IVD industry.
-Ideally having a strong existing network of existing collection sites for human biological materials
(predominantly serum and plasma)
-Strong understanding of how human biological products are used with In Vitro Diagnostic testing
-Experience of working with Standard Operating Procedures and/or within a Quality Management
System would be advantageous
-Experience of managing projects would be advantageous
-Experience of managing people would be advantageous
-Biology degree or equivalent experience would be advantageous
-Proficiency in both MS Office and a CRM system
