About Psyros

Psyros are a start-up company based at Discovery Park, near Sandwich in Kent. We
are developing a novel technology platform for single-molecule counting in whole
blood that will revolutionise clinical diagnostics. The technology is based upon
photoactive reagents generating dark spots in a fluorescent sensor layer. Each dark
spot represents a single binding event. We plan to develop the world’s most
sensitive point-of-care detection system. This system will comprise a small, portable
reader and single-use disposable cartridges. In addition to having extreme
sensitivity, the system will also be designed to have a rapid time-to-result.
Our initial launch product will be a near patient system for the detection of troponin, a
marker for myocardial infarction. This will be followed by a range of other tests,
potentially in the emerging field of neurology markers in blood.
Psyros was formed by 4 experienced scientists who have worked in clinical
diagnostics for 15+ years, in both a start-up environment and a multinational
organisation. The company has been awarded three prestigious UK government
grants and is now expanding rapidly.
