Press release: 15 December 2020
Kreston Reeves’ Digital Marketing Executive Patrick Cantellow aged 21 from Sittingbourne, Kent has been given a Special Recognition Award for his commitment to the social enterprise Youth Employment UK, as he is now in his 5th year of volunteering for them.
Patrick completed his Level 6 qualification at Kreston Reeves which he joined in 2019. He first became involved with Youth Employment UK at its London conference in 2015 and he is a passionate advocate for careers advice and guidance and for the power of apprenticeships.
Over the last five years, Patrick has contributed to the development of Youth Employment UK, he has spoken at a number of events and conferences, represented the organisation in parliament and for the last two years he has Chaired the Ambassador Board. In 2020 Patrick became a Non-Executive Director of Youth Employment UK.
Laura-Jane Rawlings, CEO of Youth Employment UK comments: “We were delighted to see Patrick receive this award. For a 21-year-old to pass a 5-year volunteering mark with any organisation is incredible, but the recognition is not just for time served but for his contribution to the development of Youth Employment UK and his contribution to our impact. Before Covid young people were three times more likely to be unemployed than older groups, this has amplified this year and more young people are facing unemployment. It is critical that young people have a voice on these issues and are able to contribute to the evolving policy landscape. Patrick has been making these types of contributions for 5 years and has become an excellent role model and champion for young people.”
Karen Thompson Training Manager at Kreston Reeves comments: “Patrick is a great ambassador for the apprenticeship scheme and we are very pleased to have him on our team here at Kreston Reeves. We are currently one of only four Accountancy firms in the UK who are listed as an employer provider and are delighted to hold this much coveted status. We have 100 apprentices at Kreston Reeves and most of our apprentices complete Level 7 (accounting and tax training). In addition to this, we also have our own training programme which supports learning on wider business, personal and technical skills. An aim for the future is to offer a route into the sector for many other young people who might not have considered accountancy and for those looking for opportunities at Level 3 or 4, but we need more ambassadors like Patrick to help promote the benefits of the scheme.”
