Innovation and Investment in 2020 – A New Year Message from Discovery Park 15 January, 2020

A very Happy New Year to you all, and best wishes for a prosperous 2020.

We’re focusing on innovation and investment at Discovery Park in 2020, building on our achievements of last year. These two ingredients play a key role in our strategy to build a world class, world-leading science park, home to R&D companies across the biotechnology,

pharmaceutical and medtech sectors.

Innovation is a strong driver of future growth for us. Through our discussions with local universities, tenants and across the life sciences industry, we’re looking to drive research translation and collaboration. The Discovery Park Health Hub, established last year as a forum for patient-facing companies, will play a role in this. Pfizer UK at Discovery Park is a strong partner in our collaboration agenda and its many alumni form a supportive network for our activities. In addition to hosting conferences in areas of interest such as manufacturing, digital and artificial intelligence in healthcare at Discovery Park, you will find us at a range of events across the UK this year, talking to exciting companies and building relationships.

On the investment side, Kent County Council’s 2019 announcement of a £5m investment fund for companies on site has catalysed our discussions with a range of finance sources. Discovery Park is investing in its infrastructure as well – look out for developments across the year as we make Discovery Park the ideal home for ambitious and growing companies, from small molecules through to biologicals and to cell and gene therapies. We are part of a thriving East of England life sciences cluster and will be using that platform to raise our profile on the international stage too.

Highlights of last year for us included our partnership with Angels in MedCity, launch of Concept Life Sciences’s new manufacturing facility, and ongoing commitment to the site from Pfizer with its investment in advanced paediatric manufacturing. In addition, co-hosting with Pfizer the UK Medicines Manufacturing Industry Partnership annual meeting gave us some important insights into the future of the sector, and we were pleased to welcome LifeCells as a new tenant and establish our Health Hub for consumer-facing companies. It was a great year too for our UKSPA-award winning Community Lab for STEM education, which hosted

scientific activities for over 200 local school children. You can find more of our news here.
