Discovery Park companies asked to participate in the CCI Programme

Discovery Park companies have been asked to participate in the CCI Programme to help inspire primary students by connecting with industry and teachers.

The highly-successful Children Challenging Industry (CCI) programme, managed by the (Centre for Industry Education Collaboration) at the University of York is an excellent example of engaging with children at an early age, together with teaching staff, to attract more people to study STEM subjects and take up careers in industry.

What is involved?

Discovery Park Tenants participating in a 2 hour training session from Nicola Waller, a former primary school teacher – now working at University of York with CIEC

The session will explain how you can make a difference by mentoring upper primary age students at local Kent schools.

Teachers will also participate in a separate training session and be provided with a kit of resources to facilitate the learning experience.

The companies will spend two sessions virtually or at the school (depending on their preference) for any length of time they can manage – 10 minutes to an hour.

Your chosen company member can be from any level. All required is a passion to inspire STEM interest and as a role model explain what you do and why and your journey. Your Undergraduates and Apprentices welcome as this is a learning experience for not only students but individuals in industry and teachers.

During this time of increased remote learning, site visits have transformed into an exciting combination of live classroom interactions with STEM professionals in their place of work, and pre-recorded demonstrations which children would usually see during their site visits. CIEC’s specialist advisory teachers deliver all CPD and coordinate all elements of the programme to broker arrangements and ensure smooth running and effectiveness.
