Discovery Park is delighted to announce that simPal – the innovative mobile phone service that keeps people living with and affected by cancer, connected with friends and family – is our 2017 charity of the year.
simPal, is based at Innovation House, the main hub for general business at Discovery Park in Sandwich, Kent.
Since their launch last year, they have received an amazing response from leading health trusts and cancer charities across the UK, for referrals and collaboration.
The charity’s aim is to help lessen the social isolation, loneliness and financial pressure felt by many when affected and living with cancer. simPal provides these people with free calls, texts and data, and a mobile phone, if required.
This service is completely free to the end user and is non-means tested. Applications for support, including referrals, can be made via the Your simPal website (www.yoursimpal.com), by email at email@example.com or by calling the Freephone number 0800 567 7890.
The service is dependent on the support of the public and businesses, as well as corporate sponsorship. These donations help to fund pre-paid SIM cards and handsets, which can then reduce the financial burden these people can experience and keeps them connected with their family, friends and loved ones during these most difficult times.
Since its official launch last year, simPal have received more than 300 applications both through direct applications and referrals from the collaborations for me so far, with the NHS and charities, including CLIC Sargent, Macmillan Cancer Information Services, Maggie’s Centres, the Swallow Group, Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital and the Royal Marsden Hospital.
Blair Papworth, founder of simPal, said: “Discovery Park have been a great supporter of simPal in the seven years of working on this project and we are honoured to be their official charity of the year.
“This is such an exciting time for us and we can’t wait to share with businesses on site at Discovery Park, across Kent and throughout the UK, our story and how they can support us and make a huge and positive difference to people living with cancer.”
Kimberley Anderson, Corporate Services Manager, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support simPal by selecting them as our charity of the year – and will be doing all we can to raise their profile during 2017.
“Many people take their mobile phone for granted, but when you’re diagnosed with cancer, phone bills can become a huge burden. The simPal service takes away that worry, making a huge difference to people’s lives.”
