A fundraising services company based at Discovery Park has expanded for the third time to meet growing demand for its work supporting some of the UK’s largest charities.
Gemini Lotto Fundraising, which forms part of Gemini Group London, was set up in 2013 by managing director, Ben Walton. The company acts on behalf of some of the UK’s largest charities providing fundraising and brand awareness options.
Ben said: “I started Gemini Lotto Fundraising in 2013, after spending six years in the charity sector. When we first started, it was just my partner, Natasha, and I.
“We had a vision for what we wanted to achieve within five years and, although we never had any start-up loans or any investment, we’re now fast approaching sector leadership nationally.
When launching four years ago, the company had two office-based staff and two field-based fundraisers. Now, Gemini Lotto Fundraising has grown to include eight full-time office staff, 50 field-based fundraisers and a call centre being built which is set to create 10 further more positions.
Today, the company works with several charities ranging from national brands to small regional names. The business has also recently formed Gemini Utilities and Gemini Group London, and plan over the next five years to become a real presence in the utilities and field sales divisions.
Ben continues: “Our main client at the moment is London Air Ambulance (LAA), and they have been a key project for us this year. Many of the 10 million people that live, work and visit within the M25 have no clue the LAA is actually a charity that receives no government or NHS funding.
“This is where we come in. We have professional fundraisers out full time, promoting and selling weekly lottery tickets on behalf of the LAA in private sites and exhibitions. They need around £10m a year to carry out the vital life saving work, and income generated by the weekly lottery covers for around half of that. It’s an amazing charity and one we are very proud to partner with.”
Ben continues: “Every day, the job has taught me something new, in business you never stop learning and reinventing things. A great word the Japanese use is ‘kaizen’ – this translates to ‘continued growth’ and is an analytical process used in business. We use this model and always look to improve where possible. 2017 was our best year to date.”
Now having expanded at Discovery Park for the third time, Ben reflects: “For us, basing the business at Discovery Park was a no-brainer. For me, the facilities and hospitality stand head and shoulders above anywhere else I’ve been based or viewed. We really do have an amazing place of work and it’s a pleasure heading in each morning. The plethora of independent businesses operating onsite means that we don’t have to travel far if we need anything at all.
“Discovery Park has helped us grow and facilitated our expansion. We are about to move into our third office within 12 months, due to our continued fast-paced growth and, each time, the staff have been on hand to cater to all our business needs.”
Looking to the future, Gemini Lotto Fundraising have no plans of slowing down. Ben says: “We have some exciting plans for continued growth. We are currently in discussion with two more national charities, with plans for Gemini Lotto Fundraising to start working alongside them in the New Year.
“Our aim is to have 100 field based fundraisers working across the whole of the UK by June 2018. Gemini Group London will continue to grow, and welcome any new business from clients looking to increase their branding and customer base across the U.K.”
