Fundraising

From our annual Golf Classic to glittering balls and thought-provoking sleep-outs, Discovery Park does all it can to support charitable causes, including our official charity of the year.

Your simPal is our main charity for 2017, an amazing new service which connects people living with cancer. There’s more detail on their work in the list of stories below.

They follow on from homeless charity Porchlight in 2016 and Pilgrims Hospices in 2015, successfully raising thousands of pounds and awareness of some amazing local projects.

Whether it’s organising fundraising events, donating surplus furniture to local schools, or providing support to charity events organised by tenants here on site, we try to help wherever we can.

Discovery Park sponsor annual Crocus Walk

Discovery Park were the main sponsor for this year’s annual Crocus Walk – and joined in with more than 140 other people to hike from Walmer to St Margaret’s Bay.

The walk has already raised £2,000 for the charity, which is the UK’s largest breast cancer charity.

For the first time, everyone who completed the walk received a medal and – in another element to the event – walkers were tasked with finding pink pebbles which had been dropped along the route.

Kimberley Anderson, Corporate Relations Manager at Discovery Park, said: “It’s been great to support the Crocus Walk in aid of Breast Cancer Now, raising nearly £2,000 for a fantastic cause. Even though there was rain, and lots of hills to negotiate, everyone kept encouraging one another with a smile on their face. It’s great to see the community come together for events like this.”

Kerry Rubins said: “It was a truly special day with lots of new walkers that took part. We had walkers from Stoke Mandeville, Ashford, Whitstable, London, Tunbridge Wells, along with lots of locals.”

On Your Bike – Cycling for You Can charity

Discovery Park will be cycling the Viking Coastal Trail in aid of the You Can Youth Cancer Support charity next month.

On Sunday, 13 May, all those taking part will pedal a total of 32 miles around one of the most attractive circular cycle routes in Kent – taking in the coast of Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate, before heading inland through the surrounding villages.

The money raised will go to the You Can charity and their holiday home, Hinton House in Westgate-on-Sea, which offers young people an opportunity to enjoy a break with their family down on the coast. It’s precious time to spend together away from the day to day stresses of living with cancer.

The ride will start at 8.30am and will incorporate a number of stops along the way. Challenging, scenic and great fun for all abilities, the entry fee is £20 and requires a minimum fundraising target of £50.
